What should I know about Neos Marmaras?

Neos Marmaras is 107 kilometers from Thessaloniki airport. It is the largest coastal village – town on the second leg of Halkidiki, Sithonia. It is the most cosmopolitan place in Sithonia and every year thousands of tourists visit it and enjoy the beautiful beaches, the beautiful landscapes, the nature in the surrounding mountains, and the night life as well as romantic walks in its amphitheater streets overlooking the islet of Kelyfos, the first foot and in the background the mountain of the Gods, Olympus. Neos Marmaras was founded after the uprooting of the Asia Minors from the island of Marmaras in the Propontis, in 1922. The first inhabitants had gathered at the Parthenon, 5 kilometers from today’s Neos Marmaras, at the foot of Mount Itamos, with rare architecture that has been preserved to this day and attracts the interest of travelers for its strong traditional style. Today, in the beautiful, stone village, which has been characterized as a “traditional settlement”, there are taverns and guest houses, while there we find a well-kept folklore museum, as well as the “cauldron”, where tsipouro was made in the old days.

Also daily boats depart from Neos Marmaras to circumnavigate Mount Athos.
