What should I know about Nea Flogita?
Nea Flogita is a seaside village. It is 45 km from Thessaloniki airport. The village was built by refugees who came from Cappadocia while the 1,800 or so residents are engaged in agriculture and in recent years tourism has played an important role in increasing their income.
The beaches are sandy, so the water is suitable for families with children. Along the coast there are also many beach bars. It is close to Thessaloniki so you can visit the Mediterranean Cosmos Mall to do some shopping. Flogita is a favorite destination of the Thessalonians for daily swimming in the sea.
Of course, the most important point of interest in Nea Flogita are the “Russian” Metochi, Byzantine buildings of the holy monastery of Agios Panteleimon on Mount Athos. There the 10th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities is preparing the versatile “Centre of Byzantine Culture of Halkidiki” under the name “Justinianos”.
