Daily Tour to Lake Kerkini

Ideal destination for nature lovers! Kerkini is one artificial lake since 1932. It was created of a dam on the river Strymon. Lake Kerkini is one of the 10 most important wetlands in Greece and suitable place for natural observation of about 300 species of birds and rare animals. We admire, the wonderful flamingos and the imposing buffaloes; parts of the Greek fauna. Ideal excursion by boating on the lake of the National Park. The ideal time to visit the Park is May-June. Because most of the lake’s birds have given birth and are raising their young ones.
Near the lake there is the Holy Monastery of Timios Prodromos. The Timiou Hermitage Prodromou is built on the international walking path E4 / 6. From the
monastery the view of Lake Kerkini is panoramic. It was built entirely of traditional building materials, such as stone, marble and ceramic bricks. The church, with a total dimension of 500 sq., is exact copy of the Holy Monastery of Xenophon (10th century) Mount Athos style, cruciform with domes.
