What should I know about Nea Roda?

Nea Roda is about 107 kilometers from Thessaloniki airport. The village was founded in 1923 by refugees from Roda in Propontis, in Asia Minor. But it is known since the time of the Persian Wars. There, at one point, Xerxes opened a canal about 1,800 m long, for his ships to pass through and thus avoid the stormy circumnavigation of the Athos peninsula.

The main occupation of the inhabitants of the village is agriculture, fishing and tourism. It is 6 kilometers from Ierissos.
